‘The Blessing’ Continues to Provide Much-Needed Hope In This COVID-19 World

Pre-pandemic Elevation Ballantyne church in Charlotte, North Carolina, is where award-winning worship artist Kari Jobe, along with husband, Cody Carnes, and Elevation Worship, first performed the hit single, “The Blessing.”

Born out of a desperation to seek God’s presence, the lyrics were inspired from a portion of Numbers 6, as if sung from the Lord’s heart to ours, Jobe says.

But even with the hardships that came with 2020 and are continuing into 2021, nobody could have predicted the impact the song would have.

“We wanted to write a song around all the blessings we believed and prayed over ourselves. We just didn’t know that we’d need all those [blessings] all at once and all of a sudden [with COVID],” Jobe said.

As COVID-19 numbers rise and with the transition of power on the horizon on the eve of the inauguration, the lyrics provide peace in the reminder that the Lord sees, knows and loves every son and daughter He created:

“May His presence go before you/ And behind you, and beside you/ All around you, and within you/ He is with you.”
