Guess Which Candidate Muslim Voters Support?

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, which has launched a campaign to mobilize 1 million new Muslim voters for the 2016 election, held a six-state “Super Tuesday” poll of nearly 2,000 Muslim voters.

The winner, by a landslide, was Hillary Clinton, who beat out Bernie Sanders by 21 points, 46 to 25 percent. Republican front-runner Donald Trump, who has been heavily criticized for what CAIR calls “anti-Muslim policies,” received 11 percent of the vote.

Not surprisingly, the poll also showed that “growing Islamophobia” is the top issue for Muslim voters.

“American Muslim voters are worried about the unprecedented anti-Muslim rhetoric being used by presidential candidates and are going to the polls in increasing numbers at both the state and national levels to make their voices heard by the candidates,” CAIR founder and National Executive Director Nihad Awad said.

The organization reported that support for the Democrat and Republican parties remained “mostly constant” from previous surveys, although support for Republicans had grown by 3 points in just one month. The most recent poll found 67 percent of Muslim voters support the Democrats, while 18 percent support Republicans.
