Will This Clinton Super PAC Video Make Christian Voters Stay Home on Election Day?

It’s no secret that Democrats want to suppress the conservative evangelical Christian vote in November; it’s been a part of their general election playbook for decades.

But a new ad released by a pro-Hillary Clinton Super PAC is taking those efforts to a whole new level. They want you, and voters like you, to be so disgusted with Donald Trump that you just refuse to go to the polls at all on Nov. 8.

The 60-second ad produced by Priorities USA Action, titled “Grace,” features Chris and Lauren Glaros of Columbus, Ohio, discussing their decision to continue Lauren’s pregnancy, even though their daughter Grace was diagnosed in utero with spina bifida. They also express their disgust over Trump’s mocking of a New York Times reporter who is disabled.

“I remember being in the ultrasound room and finding out that our daughter was going to be born with a disability—spina bifida,” Chris Glaros says.

“She was born 20 weeks later on Valentine’s Day and she is a total blessing in our lives,” Lauren Glaros added.

They go on to say Grace is the “happiest child you’ve ever seen” and that she “brings out goodness” in everyone she meets. But, they say they were shocked when Trump mocked the Times reporter, saying the children at their daughter’s school at least know enough not to act that way, but in this case, it was an adult doing it.

“It showed me his soul, it showed me his heart, and I didn’t like what I saw,” Chris Glaros concluded.

The ad (see below) is one of many produced by Priorities USA Action, which has been around since 2011, in which the PAC promises to “share stories of middle-class Americans across the country and educate voters about why Hillary Clinton is the clear choice for President.” As of this writing, “Grace” has been viewed 844,000 times on YouTube; it’s unclear how broadly the ad is appearing on television, but National Public Radio reports it is appearing in Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Nevada, Colorado, Iowa and New Hampshire.

According to NPR, Priorities USA Action spokesman Justin Barasky denied the group is targeting evangelical voters.

“We’re speaking to lots of different people—to anyone who thinks mocking someone with a disability is offensive,” he said. “Mocking someone with a disability is offensive to evangelicals, it’s offensive to agnostics, it’s offensive to just about everybody.”

The electoral alternative to Trump is Clinton, as Priorities USA Action has made clear. And if evangelicals have reason not to vote for Trump, they have even more reason not to vote for his Democratic counterpart, who praised a Texas abortionist during a speech earlier this month to Planned Parenthood.

That abortionist, Amna Dermish, was caught on tape as part of the Center for Medical Progress’ undercover journalism project describing a partial-birth abortion procedure to terminate living, late-term unborn babies. In the video, she said she hoped those efforts would yield intact fetal heads for brain harvesting.

Clinton, in her speech, said a paper Dermish authored defending abortion and criticizing Trump “should be required reading for every politician in America.”

If evangelicals can’t be convinced to vote for Clinton, it would seem Priorities USA Action’s plan is to remind them why they should think twice about voting for Trump. And, by suppressing the evangelical Christian vote, they can propel Clinton to the White House.

For his part, Trump has continued to deny he was mocking the Times reporter for his disability.

“I was very expressive in saying it, and they said that I was mocking him,” Trump has said. “I would never mock a person that has difficulty. I would never do that. I’m telling you, I would never do it.”
