President Trump Calls for Election Correction in Georgia, Campaigns for Senators
During a rally Saturday in Valdosta, Georgia, President Donald J. Trump continued to speak on election fraud and asked voters to support U.S. Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, both Republicans who will face runoff against Democrats Jan. 5. The election will determine the balance of power in Washington.
Thousands of people attended Trump’s rally.
“The voters of Georgia will determine which party runs every committee, writes every piece of legislation, controls every single taxpayer dollar,” he said. “Very simply, you will decide whether your children will grow up in a socialist country or whether they will grow up in a free country.”
The president went on to say that Perdue and Loeffler were two of his biggest supporters in Congress.
Republicans need one victory to maintain their Senate majority. If both Georgia senators lose to Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, the Senate will be split 50-50, with Democrat Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote.
Republicans all over the country are encouraging Georgia voters to vote Jan. 5 to keep Republican control of the Senate.
President Trump said the races amounted to “the most important congressional runoff, probably in American history.”
Democrats, too, are calling for voters to “flip it blue.”
Loeffler and Warnock participated in a debate Sunday while Ossoff addressed the press club without Perdue.
The Presidential Recount
On Friday, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said he wants a signature audit of the presidential election after a video surfaced Thursday showing questionable voting processing in the state. In the video, it appears election workers are counting ballots coming from secret suitcases during the overnight hours—after election poll watchers and the media had been told to go home.
Kemp told host Laura Ingraham in a Fox News town hall that he was upset after seeing a new video presenting during hearings in the Georgia Senate that appears to show thousands of potentially illegal votes being counted in secret.
“I called early on for a signature. Obviously the secretary of state, per the laws in the Constitution, would have to order that. He has not done that. I think it should be done,” Kemp said of Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
The video has gone viral on Twitter and has been shared by a Georgia congressman who also wants an investigation.
Key Dates in December
There are at least three major lawsuits filed by the president and his attorneys against Georgia and its election process. The three lawsuits are referred to as the Lin Wood suit, the Kraken suit and the Trump/David Shafer suit.
Under federal law, challenges against the election have until Dec. 8, tomorrow, to be resolved. It’s called the Safe Harbor Deadline, requiring disputes to be settled six days before electors cast their votes.
Other important dates in December are:
Dec. 14 – When the U.S. Code requires electors in all the states to meet and vote on the Monday after the second Wednesday in December of presidential elections.
Dec. 23 – When the state’s certified electoral votes must be delivered from the state to the president of the Senate.
Summing It Up
People on the ground, such as election law attorney Cleta Mitchell, said the state’s process is in complete shambles.
“I can make this simple statement: The election in Georgia was not conducted in accordance with the legislative enactments of duly enacted laws, the election code of the state of Georgia,” she said.
Mitchell has been working as a volunteer with the campaign’s legal team in Georgia. The left may be ready to move on, but for the sake of every voter, she argues, Republicans should not. {eoa}
