Definitive Proof God’s Promises Are Forever
As Jews and Christians alike mark the 70th anniversary of Israel becoming a nation on Monday, Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES, ses.edu) President and evangelical leader Dr. Richard Land said that the safe haven established in 1948 must continue to be a home for the Jewish people.
Land shared his thoughts on the upcoming anniversary in a series of his radio features called “Bringing Every Thought Captive,” which airs daily on nearly 800 stations nationwide.
“Benjamin Netanyahu’s connection to the nation of Israel is a very personal one,” Land said. “In speaking to Israelis, Prime Minister Netanyahu explained how his grandfather was beaten unconscious by an anti-Semitic mob in a train station in the heart of Europe at the end of the 19th century, pledging that if he survived the night, he would bring his family to the land of Israel and help build a new future for the Jewish people. Mr. Netanyahu went on to say, ‘I am standing here today as the prime minister of Israel because my grandfather kept his promise.’ God keeps His promises too, and He promised the land of Israel to the Jews forever. Their return is part of biblical prophecy. God gave that land to them by covenant.”
Therefore, it is crucial for evangelical Christians to be aware of that covenant and its relationship not only to biblical history but to current events as well.
“Why do so many evangelicals so strongly support Israel?” Land asked. “The answer is the Abrahamic Covenant (Gen. 12:1-3), which, among other things, says God promised the land of Canaan to the Jews forever. Millions of American evangelicals believe this promise is still in force. They believe that God is a keeper of His promises and that He promised the land to the Jews, in belief and unbelief, in obedience and in disobedience, forever. It is an unconditional promise, which has no time limits.
“The Abrahamic Covenant also promises that God will bless those who bless the Jews and curse those who curse the Jews. If we want God to bless us individually and collectively as a nation, then we need to bless the Jews. Still, eternal salvation for everyone, Jews and Gentile, is through personal faith in Jesus the Messiah, who declared, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by Me’ (John 14:6).”
