How Music Drastically Impacted This Kingdom Warrior
Usually when Dr. Michael Brown writes a book, he presents a biblical take on one of America’s cultural issues. His latest release, however, is about a subject many were surprised to see him tackle—one that impacted him from a very young age.
The Power of Music: God’s Call to Change the World One Song at a Time covers a topic Brown says “deeply gripped him.”
“It’s very unusual for me,” said Brown, author of the Charisma News column “In the Line of Fire.” “People expect books from me about repentance, revival, Jewish apologetics, doctrinal controversy, etc. But this was a surprise. I felt a real supernatural burden to write this.”
When the Beatles came to America in 1964, a 9-year-old Brown was fascinated. He started playing the drums and saw his first rock concert at age 13. At that point, his life took a negative turn.
“That opened up my life to drugs and rebellion, and that shaped my life between the ages 14 and 16,” he said. “I went to one rock concert after another. My life was going to school, getting high, playing in a rock band, practicing and going to rock concerts.”
But then, Brown’s life took a much more positive turn.
“When I got saved, it was in a little Italian Pentecostal church, and the pastor’s wife [was] playing piano. It was something about those joyous hymns; the Lord really touched me. I was supernaturally overcome. I experienced and encountered the love of God in this little church.
“One way with this destructive power music, I experienced another way with this life-giving power. I’ve seen it, I’ve lived it. I’ve used music in my life over the years and I feel that it is many ways the most powerful revolutionary tool we have for good or for bad depending on the message associated with it.”
Brown discusses his book and other subjects with host Dr. Steve Greene on the latest edition of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. Listen, and let his powerful story inspire you!
