As the once mighty Roman empire was declining rapidly, Rome’s rulers had a clever strategy of diversion, distraction and deception. “Give ’em bread and circuses!”
The poet Juvenal identified it and you may recall it in the movie, “Gladiator.”
Rome was on a slippery slope that eventually led to collapse. “Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are condemned to repeat them.”
Joe Biden and the radical Democrat Party are successfully employing this strategy. Giving people entitlements and freebies along with keeping people distracted with nonstop Netflix entertainment and NFL games is working masterfully as multitudes don’t realize what’s going down!
Ignorance can lead to apathy, and then to calamity, which is exactly what we’re experiencing in America today after two years of the Biden administration debacle. Problems aren’t addressed, which enables those in power to continue enriching themselves and “kicking the can down the road” so that they can eventually exit conveniently before collapse.
The phrase implies selfishness of politicians and neglect of the well-being of the masses.
