Despite the Misinformation of Opponents, the Constitution Won Out in Roe v. Wade

Justice Samuel Alito, in writing for the majority in the decision to overturn Roe and Planned Parenthood v. Casey’s protection of abortion until viability, reaffirmed constitutional limitations on certain critical social issues.

Here’s a summary of his views:

1. Abortion is viewed as a “critical moral question” because it destroys what its opponents hold to be “the life of an unborn human being.”

2. The High Court’s majority concluded that the supposed federal right to abortion was “egregiously wrong from the start” in the 1973 decision, since the “Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision.”

3. The majority opinion goes on to explicitly state that “nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.”

4. Pro-life advocates will now work at nonfederal levels to ban or restrict abortion, just as they always said they would, with the purpose of protecting human lives, not tyrannizing the private behavior of consenting adults.

Since 1973, our nation has acquiesced to an estimated 60 million abortions. Lives, families, doctors, scientists and even taxpayers have been sadly and sardonically eliminated from our society. This moral issue has, unfortunately, “enflamed debate and deepened division,” Alito wrote.

Let us all now pray for peace and righteousness to prevail in our nation. May politicians and activists temper their tongues and only speak out when they have answers to our problems and not just hearts of anger.

May we all seek and find needed humility, lest God has to humble us to enforce it.

“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chron. 7:14, MEV).
