Signs, Wonders, Miracles and Salvations Follow This Brazilian-Born Pastor and His Teams

Signs, wonders, miracles and salvations—including growth of limbs, recovered speech, favor with drug lords, and souls turning from darkness to light—follow a Brazilian-born pastor and the missionary teams he leads to the nations.

Given his extraordinary birth, Samuel Brum (pronounced Broom), Jr. lives amid the miraculous. His mother, Elizabeth, was gravely ill in 1982 when a missionary prayed for her at Comunidade Evangelica de Honorio Gurgel (CHEG), the church she and husband, Samuel Brum Sr., lead with their daughter and son-in-law in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

A bleeding cancerous tumor dimmed the Brums’ hopes for conceiving another child. The missionary, whose words proved prophetic, asked Elizabeth about her willingness to dedicate a future baby to the Lord.

“As the missionary-prophet prayed, I saw behind Elizabeth’s head a vision of a boy child,” Samuel Brum, Sr. said through an interpreter. “We agreed then to dedicate our child to the Lord and to the nations,” said Brum, who followed in his father’s footsteps as leader the Portuguese-speaking church.

When Elizabeth gave birth to a boy in July 1983, the Brums named him Samuel, and dedicated the child to the Lord and to his call to the nations.

Today Brum Jr. is living that prophetic destiny. He is a pastor of college- and career-aged adults, and he leads outreach-minded missionaries to the ends of the earth. From their second home in the United States, Brum, wife Sabrina and their two daughters are literally touching the world with God’s love and power.

Recently the Brums—while working on their American visas in Brazil—welcomed a group from the Colorado church where Samuel and Sabrina teach, preach and lead worship, as well as serve people through local ministry outreaches with volunteers. The Brums and their worship recorded a live worship CD while there.

Some of the acts of the first apostles were repeated by Brum and the group. They were conduits for God’s supernatural power to flow to people living in two of Rio de Janeiro’s slums, as well as in churches united with the Brums’ vision, during a short-term mission trip in March 2019.

In the slums and through some of Rio’s poorest neighborhoods, the love and power of God flowed.

Both manifest after Brum prayed for a severely challenged, nonverbal teen boy living with his older sister and five other siblings in a Rio favela, the Portuguese word for “slum.” Groaning and fixated on his hand, the boy began to speak as Brum and another laid hands on him. His sister Diana, who assumed responsibility for caring for her siblings after their mother’s death from alcohol-related symptoms, celebrated when her brother spoke intelligible words.

On a street outside the corrugated-metal dwelling the family calls home, a man dressed in neat casual attire handed out Bible tracts along with others in a small group. Recognizing the leader, Brum embraced him as residents of the favela looked on. While living in Rio, Bum visited jail prisoners with his friend and pastor, Luis Claudios. “He used to deal drugs in this slum, but today this friend and pastor offers Jesus instead,” said Bum.

In another poor neighborhood, Bum approached two drug dealers on the street after his group ministered in “homes” inside an abandoned factory controlled by the cartel. The dealers, Paulo and Ricardo, agreed to let Brum’s team pray for them as he and another man laid hands on their bodies—not far from the guns they packed. The “homes” and buildings under the cartel’s control are marked with holes from drug dealers’ gun fire. A church led by a Brum family friend, Pastor Maria, stands across the street from one shot-up building.

Favor with the cartel allows Brum, Pastor Maria and the team to deliver needed groceries from CHEG, as well as children’s toy gifts from both churches. Single moms, sick children, struggling couples and a lonely senior man enthusiastically welcomed prayer and encouragement.

Profound love for the Brums—who represent three generations of pastors—results in invitations for Samuel Jr. and his followers to minister in their churches. Delivering powerful messages and God’s healing virtue, the team prayed for sick bodies, troubled marriages, prodigal children, personal finances, jobs and better ones. The team documented creative miracles and a testimony from a woman who was supernaturally healed.

Back at CHEG, the team built a playground for the hundreds of children who come from the slums each Saturday for a little taste of heaven on earth, a happy place where bellies and hearts are filled with hot food and love.

The Brums possess a legacy of caring for the least of these. “My grandfather cared for widows here,” said Brum, pointing to former homes next to the church. The vacant apartments and adjoining property, Brum said, fit his family’s vision to care for children as they grow into adulthood.

“The prophetic dream is to break generational curses of fatherlessness and poverty by elevating the kids through direct intervention, including vocational training and missional callings to the nations,” said Brum, who trained for and practiced dentistry in Brazil and for ministry in the U.S.

Brum, who trained at the International House of Prayer (IHOPKC) in Missouri, envisions a Dream Center—a ministry name for outreaches around the world—in Rio like the one he leads in Colorado at Rez.Church, which supports outreaches and missionaries around the world, including Brazil. The Dream Center ministry adopts city blocks, taking a mobile truck to neighborhoods where there are spiritual and physical needs.

“We envision something like a Dream Center and/or a YWAM (Youth With A Mission) base in Rio where apostles and prophets come in off the streets to be trained and sent out to fulfill their missional callings,” Brum said.

He plans to take teams to the nations and, of course, to Brazil. Prophetically, during this trip, planning mission trips to Brazil got easier for Brum and other missions leaders. Brazil’s president—in meetings with President Trump at the White House and government leaders in Washington, D.C.—announced his country will drop travel-visa requirements for citizens from the U.S.

There was a prophetic word that, because Brazil plans to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Israel, the nation would be blessed financially for its recognition of the Jewish capital.
