On Sept. 1, 1939, at 4:45 AM, Hitler’s once Democrat Socialist Workers Party that morphed into Nazism, launched their blitzkrieg (“lightning war”) on an unprepared Poland. A total of 1.5 million troops stormed the nation by land, air and sea.
The Polish people were overwhelmed. German tanks steamrolled into the country; the Luftwaffe bombarded homes, trains and mowed down Poles with vicious staccato machine gun fire.
