President Joe Biden

President’s Faith Questioned by Majority of Americans

While the President of the United States continues to make the claim that he is a “devout Catholic,” a recent poll shows that most Americans do not buy it.

In a late February poll by Pew Research, only 13% of Americans regarded President Biden as “very religious,” while 41% categorized him as “somewhat religious.” Another 44% indicated that they perceived him as either “not at all religious” or “not too religious.”

One of the driving forces behind this sentiment is the administration’s highly aggressive push for abortion.

This focus on abortion has even caused a rift between the White House and the Vatican, with Pope Francis calling Biden’s views on abortion an act of “incoherence.”

While Pope Francis has his own critics worldwide for his more left-leaning views, the Catholic Church still maintains a strict view that abortion is immoral and opposes it in all forms.

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law,” (No. 2271).

President Biden is not the first, and most likely not the last, Democrat who claims to be a Catholic that has pushed for more and more abortion access.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) fought so fiercely for abortion throughout her tumultuous time in Congress that Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone wrote a public letter informing her that she could no longer receive the sacrament of communion.

Abortion is not the only cultural issue that has divided many within the Catholic Church, as the Biden administration has taken the crown as arguably the most pro-LGBTQ pushing government in the world. This stance on gender and sexuality runs completely opposite of what the Bible says God’s design for humanity is.

During June of 2023, the X (formerly Twitter) account for Joe Biden posted a divisive message that left no imagination where he stood on the matter: “Today, the People’s House–your house–sends a clear message to the country and to the world. America is a nation of pride.”

Coincidently, the Bible, the sacred book that Biden claims to honor and live by, condemns pride and says in Proverbs 16:18, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

But it does not have to be this way. If Christians want change, we must lift up America’s leadership to the Lord, praying that a wave of repentance flows through the halls of Congress and into the White House.

Nothing is impossible for the Lord, and evil leaders of the past such as King Ahab have been convicted of their sin and repented.

American leadership can repent too, and for the good of the nation, let us pray that they do.{eoa}
