No High Like the Most High? Crazed Man Blames DUI, Robbery on Holy Spirit

In Tacoma, Washington, a man who allegedly hit a car and attempted to steal donuts and cash from a convenience store claims he was high—on the Holy Spirit.

According to Komo News, Anthoney Stanley, 28, is facing charges after he rear-ended a car in a turning lane, drove off to a gas station, grabbed two donut packages and yelled to the clerk that he needed gas.

When the cashier realized the man had no money, Stanley proceeded to jump the counter and try to pry the locked register open. He soon fled.

When officers eventually tracked him down, officers described him as being under the influence of some sort of stimulant. But according to the charging documents, Stanley claimed quite the opposite.

“He said he is filled with the Holy Spirit and said the officer could draw his blood, but all he would find would be God,” said the documents.

Stanley now faces charges including attempted robbery, DUI, hit and run, and driving with a suspended license.

Is law-breaking ever a result of the Holy Spirit? Interestingly, the Apostle Paul addressed that question in Galatians 5:

“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” (emphasis added).

Whatever Stanley was high on, it wasn’t the Spirit.

Why does the Holy Spirit always get blamed for the terrible things in the world and credited for none of the good? Sound off in the comments section.
