Jamie Foxx Blasphemes, Calls Obama Lord and Savior

Respect for Barack Obama as the president of the United States is one thing. Worshipping him as a deity is quite another.

Comedian Jamie Foxx is beginning to draw fire for his idolizing comments about the commander-in-chief during the recent Soul Train Music Awards in Las Vegas. During the broadcast, aired last Sunday on BET, Foxx urged the audience to “give an honor to God—and our Lord and savior, Barack Obama.”

The statement received a rousing ovation from the audience, and another when Foxx repeated Obama’s name.

Catholic League President Bill Donohue, who has been an outspoken critic of the president’s liberalism, said in a statement Monday that Foxx’s “epiphany is startling.

“It just goes to show that, even though Obama did not succeed in stopping the oceans from rising (as he promised to do in 2008), he did succeed in convincing Jamie Foxx, and no doubt legions of others, that God exists,” Donohue said. “Whether God can survive and ACLU lawsuit accusing him of violating church and state grounds remains to be seen.”

In an op-ed earlier this year, Donohue wrote that Obama “wages war on religion.”

“The fact is Obama is uncomfortable with America’s Christian heritage,” Donohue said. “In 2010, he could not bring himself to utter the words, ‘In God We Trust’ when speaking in Indonesia about our national motto. Instead, he substituted ‘E Pluribus Unum.’ But, he is quite comfortable with atheists.”
