How Did 9/11 Change the Church?

Share:

The horrific terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, shocked Americans from every walk of life. Laws were changed, wars were launched, and our sense of security was shattered in an instant.

But as a glimmer of hope in the darkness, many who hadn’t set foot in a church in years sought answers beyond their own understanding in making sense of this catastrophe. What seemed to be a reactionary revival faded away as the freshness of the attacks dissipated.

Did the 9/11 attacks change how the church interacts with seekers? Are we more insular or more open now? What about the way we deal with disasters and other major life-impacting news events, especially in dealing with those directly affected by said events?
