Harmful School Curriculum Continues to Incur Wrath of Angry Parents
Despite FBI crackdowns and having been labeled domestic terrorists, parents across America remain steadfast in protests against critical race theory (CRT) in public education. Asra Nomani, VP of Strategy & Investigation for Parents Defending Education, recently spoke out in favor of banning the harmful curriculum.
In an interview with The Nation Speaks, Nomani said, “In June 2020, schools shut down and went remote because of the covid pandemic…[and] two things happened. Parents were able to see what their kids were being [taught] and, then, activists used this opportunity of remote learning to push their social justice agenda.”
According to CriticalRace.org, “[C]ritical racetheory is an academic movement [wherein] critical race theorists challenge the foundations of liberal order such as rationalism, constitutional law, and legal reasoning….[advocating] that, because race is a predominant part of American life, racism itself has become internalized into the American conscience.” This, according to theorists, has resulted in “significantly different legal and economic outcomes between different racial groups.”
Nomani held up a poster she confiscated from her son’s high school that used expletives to describe and berate past sins of Native American genocide, slavery and Jim Crow.
Nomani said, “These are all realities that we have to deal with, but we don’t need to demonize America. It’s shocking that this is happening in our public school system…[and] it’s happening with taxpayer money…[Now], parents are paying attention. They’re asking the school boards serious questions about how money is spent, the ideology that’s being promoted in the classrooms and the school board members don’t like getting these hard questions.”
After the National School Boards Association (NSBA) wrote a letter earlier this month to Pres. Biden requesting reinforcements against angry parents, Attorney General Merrick Garland issued a statement regarding “efforts to target any threats of violence, intimidation, and harassment by parents directed towards school board members, teachers, and other personnel”, the Epoch Times reported.
In his letter addressed to the FBI and U.S. attorneys, Garland wrote, “While spirited debate about policy matters is protected under our Constitution, that protection does not extend to threats of violence or efforts to intimidate individuals based on their views. Threats against public servants are not only illegal, they run counter to our nation’s core values.”
Parents have discovered the tenets of CRT, and subsequent ideologies such as “queer theory” and “gender theory,” also run counter to America’s Constitution and core values. Persistent pushback against radical doctrines is parents’ way of expressing their disapproval.
Nomani mentioned an incident in late September where school board members were “booed” after a parent showed the board a pornographic textbook. Nomani explained, “This is…exactly the kind of opposition they refuse [to face]. Of course violence is unacceptable, but we’re a nonviolent movement. We’re parents. We tuck our kids [in] bed at night.”
The interviewer pointed to claims of violence referenced in the NSBA’S letter to Biden and asked Nomani if any real instances had occurred that could qualify as domestic terrorism.
Nomani, who’s also a former writer for the Wall Street Journal, replied, “As a journalist, you know they’re using the “scare words” like ignites and sparks. These are all words [used] when you don’t actually have action or violence in order to manifest [a] false narrative – and that’s exactly what’s happened.” {eoa}
