George O. Wood Re-Elected Assemblies of God General Superintendent
George O. Wood was re-elected to a second four-year term as general superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Tuesday morning’s business session of the 55th General Council.
Thanking the delegates for the election, Dr. Wood said, “It is an enormous privilege to serve you, and I will serve you to the best of my abilities.”
He remarked that the epitaphs of his uncle, aunt and parents—Victor and Ruth Plymire, and George and Elizabeth Wood, respectively—express the “principles that guide [his] life.” All four were pioneer missionaries to northwestern China and Tibet.
Here are their epitaphs:
- Victory Plymire: “To Do Thy Will”
- Ruth Plymire: “No Regrets”
- George R. Wood: “God’s Faithful Minister”
- Elizabeth Wood: “God’s Faithful Servant”
Dr. Wood then introduced Jewel, his wife of 47 years; his daughter, Evangeline Zorehkey; her husband, Rick, and son, Jacob; and his son, George Paul Wood, and his wife, Tiffany.
Dr. Wood was re-elected general superintendent with a supermajority of votes on the second electoral ballot.
