Charisma News Brief: Church Arsonist Accidentally Lights Self on Fire
A man who attempted to set fire to a church in Oakland Park, Florida, accidentally lit himself ablaze, a security video has revealed.
The Broward County Sherriff’s Office recently released a surveillance video that showed footage of the culprit, who walked onto the property of the Power Outreach Ministry shortly after 1:40 p.m. He walked across the church parking lot and poured a small bucket of gasoline near the church’s front door and attempted to light it in two different areas.
The video footage shows that the suspect narrowly avoided burning himself the first time, but didn’t escape the blaze on the second attempt. The video then revealed the suspect fleeing the scene.
Investigators are still searching for the man, who fled westbound. Broward Sherriff’s Office deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to the scene quickly, but not before the fire caused more than $1,000 damage to the church, authorities said.
“After extinguishing the fire, firefighters alerted deputies to evidence that the fie at the Power Outreach Ministry may have been intentionally set. The Oakland Park City Fire Marshal responded to the scene and determined the fire to be arson,” the Broward County Sherriff’s Office said in a release.
