Calvary Chapel Vows to Move On in Wake of Pastor Bob Coy Scandal

Members of Calvary Chapel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., are pledging to move forward, following the sudden resignation of their pastor, Bob Coy.

The Florida church is one of the largest churches in America, with at least 20,000 members in its congregation.

Coy, who founded the church with his wife nearly 30 years ago, left the pulpit Sunday after admitting to a moral failure.

Meanwhile, members are trying to cope with loss of their pastor.

“I’m very sad, but you know we are all sinners,” one congregant said.

Churchgoer Elias Reynoso said, “I don’t think I am in the right place to judge.”

“He was our leader, but we are a strong church,” Patricia Urquiaga, another congregant, said. “We have other pastors who will step up.”

Meanwhile, church elders said the disgraced 58-year-old pastor would be focusing on strengthening his relationship with God and his family.

“The church is providing counselors and ministers who will help guide him through the process of full repentance, cleansing and restoration,” they said in a statement.
