250-Plus Christian Leaders Will Pray This Weekend for Trump. Will You Join Them?
Come Sunday, 250-plus Christian leaders have pledged to pray for Donald Trump as part of an initiative led by evangelist Franklin Graham.
Graham issued the call to prayer in late May.
We the undersigned are calling for June 2 to be a SPECIAL Day of Prayer for the president of the United States, Donald J. Trump, that God would protect, strengthen, embolden and direct him.
We believe our nation is at a crossroads, at a dangerous precipice. The only one who can fix our country’s problems is God Himself, and we pray that God will bless our president and our nation for His glory.
Charisma contacted multiple signees. Here’s how and why they’re praying:
Cindy Jacobs, Generals International:
I encourage you to participate in prayer for President Trump. We get the kind of president we pray for! Many people have prophesied that he is a Cyrus and we must intercede together to make that so.
Tim Hill, Church of God general overseer:
As a part of my daily devotions, I regularly pray for our leaders and our nation. So, when I was asked to join with other ministry leaders in a special day of prayer for our president, I readily accepted. Prayer brings results.
2 Chronicles 7:14 clearly tells us “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” I believe that it is time that we call upon God to heal our nation. We pray for the president because Scripture mandates it, and our nation’s great need demands it. There is no other choice. We must pray.
Rich Wilkerson Sr., founder of Peacemakers and senior pastor of Trinity Church in Miami, author of I Choose Honor:
1 Timothy 2:1-4 tells us, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” It is vital that we pray for all people, including those in a position of authority. I will be praying that our president is granted wisdom, discernment, health, and that he is surrounded by advisers who are able to support and guide him. I pray that God will work through every situation our leaders encounter and that our country will grow closer to God on a daily basis.
Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference:
By the grace of God, I have worked with and personally prayed for three different occupants of Pennsylvania Avenue. The prayer remains the same; “Dear God, cover our president and his family with the blood, protect them from all evil, fulfill your purpose in, with and through their lives. Fill him with the Holy Spirit so he can advance an agenda of righteousness and justice where love and truth lead the way, in Jesus’ name!”
Mike Evans, founder of the Jerusalem Prayer Team and Friends of Zion Museum:
I will mobilize my 60 million Jerusalem Prayer Team followers. I believe this battle has to be won in prayer. It’s much bigger than Donald Trump—it’s a battle for the soul of America.
Chonda Pierce, comedian:
We are extremely blessed to be living in a nation that is free to call upon the name of Jesus Christ to intercede on behalf of our president. I kneel with pride and pray with deep conviction for America to turn their hearts towards God.
Greg Mauro, Morris Cerullo Ministries:
Dr. Cerullo believes we are at a most critical time in the spiritual destiny of America and is standing with Franklin Graham and leaders across the country to pray for the president and our nation this Sunday, June 2, in accordance with 1 Tim. 2:1-6:
“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time” (1 Tim. 2:1-6, NLT).
Malachi O’Brien, former vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention:
The reason I signed on is twofold. First, I was asked by Paula White. Second, I believe there is a great and deep need to intercede for President Trump. As a younger leader, I am very vocal that remaining silent is not option. However it seems like there is a segment of leaders in the body of Christ who are staying neutral. We are in the midst of an ideological cold war for the future of our nation. It goes beyond issues to the very character and nature of God.
I plan on mobilizing, via social media, thousands to pray for President Trump. To pray the Word of God over him and for our nation. We are in need of a great spiritual awakening. We cannot afford to be silent and need a movement of heaven on our nation. The narrative needs to shift. Our president is under 24/7 attack. There are serious issues that need [to be] addressed but cannot [without prayer].
Michael Tait, Newsboys singer”
For me it’s plain and simple: Prayer changes things. We are encouraged—and even directly asked—to pray for our leaders, simply because they are in high places of power and influence and much is required of them. God help them!
Richard Land, president of Southern Evangelical Seminary:
I signed the commitment to pray for Donald Trump because Dr. Franklin Graham asked me to do so. It is a brilliant, Spirit-inspired idea. The Bible commands us to pray for all in those in authority. I prayed for President Obama every day, and I am praying for President Trump every day. I agree with Dr. Graham that we are in a moment of spiritual crisis in our country and that we should, as Christians, lift up our president in prayer and ask God to protect him and give him wisdom and guidance and direction as he seeks to lead the nation. Nothing but good can come from the concentrated prayer of Christians.
Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association:
Ever since Donald Trump announced his plans for the presidency, he has been attacked from all sides. Now, he is leading our country, and the attacks have not subsided; in fact, they’ve heightened. Sunday’s special Day of Prayer for the President will allow the faithful to come together to pray for our leader, as every Christian should. A country that is not held together by prayer will not survive. The American Family Association calls on every family, pastor and church this Sunday to pray for our president—for his wisdom, peace and strength.”
