$2 Million Raised for Jailed, Decorated Marine Who Slammed Superiors

Most times, public criticism of your employer might meet with a reprimand or termination. In U.S. Marine Lt. Col Stuart Scheller’s case, it might just result in a long prison term.

Scheller took to Facebook in August in a series of videos that quickly circulated the internet to condemn his superiors for “embarrassing the country” for the debacle of the Afghanistan troop withdrawal. He is currently in the brig, and the Marines have said his actions may send him to jail for a lengthy period of time.

That realization has drawn the attention of a large segment of the American public. Fox News reported that more than 27,000 donors have contributed more than $2 million to help defend the highly decorated Marine.

Scheller’s statements have met with positivity on social media by some of his donors.

“You represent honesty, integrity and character,” wrote Paul Kenyon, who donated $104.15 to Scheller’s cause. “You are a political prisoner. The USMC is embarrassing itself by how you are treated. I solute [sic] your courage.”

Fox News reported that another donor, John Habel, who matched Kenyon’s donation, said of Scheller’s superiors: “it is a shameful cabal of coward who should have all resigned.”

Fox’s Brian Kilmeade reported that the average donation was $74, and that the fundraiser, organized by Pipe Hitter Foundation, “has received monetary support” from veterans and citizens alike.” {eoa}
