Auburn University Basketball Team Baptized in Jordan River

Members of the Auburn University basketball team embraced the literal paths taken by Jesus Christ while visiting the Holy Land recently, even taking the remarkable step of getting baptized in the Jordan River.

The team “shared a special moment with each other” when they were baptized in the Jordan this week in Israel, the team tweeted.

The Auburn team was in Israel for a 10-day trip to play three exhibition games.

Former NFL Player Turned Spirit-Filled Pastor Called to Launch Atlanta Church

Pastor Mayo Sowell, a former NFL player and Auburn linebacker is making Atlanta home for his new church, LIIV Atlanta. LIIV which stands for Love, Integrity, Influence and Victory will open its doors at the Sandy Springs City Center on September 18, 2022.

Mayo and his wife, Kai, were previously pastors at Alabama’s largest church, Church of the Highlands, where they served on staff for the past nine years. Together they oversaw one of the church’s campuses and Mayo led the student ministry as an Executive Pastor. But having once lived in Atlanta, the Sowell’s felt a strong calling that God wanted them to return to the ATL and start their new ministry here.

“I used to call this city home,” Mayo says. “It’s where I met my wife and made some of my life-long friends. But it’s also a city where I experienced tremendous pain in my life that led me down a very troubled path.”

Should We Emulate the Table-Flipping Jesus?

In response to a recent article I wrote on how to love our political and ideological enemies, a reader responded, “We are past all of this to the table flipping, ‘brood of vipers’ phase now. This hippie Jesus everyone wants to portray is a blasphemy.”

In other words, there was a time when a pacifistic, hippie-like Jesus could teach such things. But as His ministry continued and the opposition got worse, He adopted a new strategy, denouncing His enemies as a “brood of vipers” and flipping the tables of the corrupt money changers.

To be sure, this negative comment was overshadowed by the flood of comments saying, “Amen!” {eoa}
