Why This Powerful Fall Event Is Needed Now More Than Ever

A recent report found that America’s young people are losing a biblical worldview. The American Bible Society even referred to Gen Z’s relationship with the Word of God as “precarious.” Yet within this disturbing news lies enormous opportunity—as research indicates members of Generation Z respond well to personal introductions to faith and religion.

For this key reason and so many others, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, fca.org is announcing that its annual key peer-to-peer autumn event, Fields of Faith, is returning this fall on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021. Coaches and athletes have flocked to this yearly event since its inception in 2004, and this inspiring experience in 2021—a time of great cultural strife—promises to be even more powerful for God’s young believers.

Fields of Faith events are fully student-led. Young athletes are encouraged to get back to the basics of reading God’s Word through worship and personal testimonies, which refuels their faith. Each year, as they gather together on their home fields, thousands have experienced the spectacular impact of the Gospel.

FCA President and CEO Shane Williamson notes the impact of the event: “Fields of Faith, like all of our FCA offerings, helps coaches and athletes experience God’s saving grace and gain the knowledge that lives can be transformed through Jesus. Since 1954, FCA’s goal has been to transform the world for Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes. More than six decades later, we are still amazed that lives are changed every day. We pray these amazing experiences for God’s glory will continue for years to come.”

And Jeff Martin, FCA’s executive director of campus sport ministry, explains, “Year after year, it’s an enormous blessing to see all that God has accomplished through Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Fields of Faith. Growing from a few thousand students at a handful of fields to nearly a quarter of a million attendees annually worldwide is incredible evidence of the Lord’s power and sovereignty, as He leads us to deepen our relationship with Him, talk to Him daily, and get into His Word on a regular basis. None of this would be possible without God and the students He raises up to organize these amazing events.”

FCA’s Fields of Faith understands that an athletic field represents a neutral rallying point for a community of faith believers. Here, on their own home turf and together with their peers, student athletes invite, pray for, share with and challenge others to read the Bible and follow Jesus Christ. FCA’s theme for 2021 is Pursue, based on 1 Timothy 6:11 (NLT): “Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.” FCA encourages its members to pursue God’s use of His Word as an anchor, grounding Christians as they look to His kingdom.

Since 1956, the impact on coaches and athletes has been the main focus of FCA Camps, with each camp offering fun, outstanding sports training, inspiring speakers, strong friendships and lasting change.
