Tucker Carlson: Defender of the Faith?
Fox News host Tucker Carlson says America has not lost its religion. It’s just being replaced by what he calls “the cult of coronavirus.”
No, God is not dead, Carlson says, as Time magazine questioned its readers in a 1966 cover story. But Carlson says “a lot of people who believed in him are dead,” and this once enthusiastically Christian country no longer has much use for the King of kings and Lord of lords.
In a recent commentary, Carlson pointed out that, in 2009, 77% of Americans told pollsters they considered themselves to be believing Christians. It took eight years of the Obama administration to lower that number by 12 points and, over the same period, he says the number of atheists and self-identified non-religious people in America jumped dramatically. That was before the pandemic struck.
“Politicians used the pandemic across the country to close thousands of churches and throw Christians in prison for practicing their faith,” Carlson says.
“What is dying is the faith that created Western civilization—Christianity,” he adds. “In its place is a new creed, and like all religions, it has its own sacraments, its own sacred texts. It’s the cult of coronavirus.”
And what are we to think of new Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul? Carlson is quoted as calling Hochul “one of the high priestesses of this new faith.”
In a recent speech at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, Hochul told the gathered group that the COVID-19 vaccine “is from God to us, and we must say, ‘Thank You, God.’ There are people who aren’t listening to God and what God wants. … I need you to be my apostles. I need you to go out and say, ‘We owe this to each other.'”
At the event, Hochul, instead of a cross, wore a necklace signifying she had been vaccinated. “That necklace signified to the faithful gathered that Hochul is ascended to the select priesthood of those who have taken full intravenous communion.”
Idol worship? Let God help you discern that one. {eoa}
