Michael Tait Opens Up About What It’s Like to Team Up With Original Newsboys Members
Michael Tait says that back when he was part of DCTalk, he and Newsboys’ original front man, Peter Furler, were “frenemies.” But now, as Newsboys’ lead singer, Tait, admits, it’s a “guilty pleasure” teaming up with the original band members for the new United tour.
“I love it,” Tait tells Taylor Berglund on the “C-Pop” podcast. I find it funny now that, all these years later, Michael Tait of DCTalk is Newsboys’ lead singer. I say God works in mysterious ways.”
Some Tait’s favorite throwback songs on the new album are “Breakfast,” “Shine” and “Something Beautiful.”
When asked what it’s like working with some of the original band members like Furler and Phil Joel, Tait compared it to someone finding a favorite pair of shoes they had lost.
“You know good old shoes that you thought you lost?” Tait says. “You find it … and put it back on and go, ‘I know exactly why I loved these shoes.’ So they’re human shoes—in a respectful way. We’ve been buddies forever, came from the same ranks. We struggled together, eating hamburgers and Ramen noodles. And God’s blessed it over the years.”
