In a post-Christian America, it can be difficult to find platforms to believe in.

Is This the Answer to Surviving in Post-Christian America?

Many Christians have been wondering how things could have gone so badly, so quickly.

The Supreme Court is, literally, making things up. ISIS is beheading gays and Christians alike, and no one is doing a thing about it. Reminiscent of the barbaric eugenics movement, Planned Parenthood has been caught coldly discussing the sale of unborn baby parts—and still, the “pro-life” GOP does nothing.

For author and Christian apologist Anthony Horvath, who lit up the blogosphere in 2006 with his claim that the Church itself was producing atheists, this is all to be expected from a society and culture that has jettisoned Christianity. According to Horvath, the Church should have seen it coming. The really shocking thing is that it didn’t.

Horvath says, “Alarm bells have been going off for decades. Paul said: ‘God cannot be mocked. Man reaps what he sows.’ A country that was so thoroughly Christian at its beginning does not become so radically secularized so quickly unless something is wrong in the American church.”

“We give people a shallow understanding of what Christianity is, and why it is true, and then act surprised when atheism becomes popular. We present faith as a form of entertainment, and then are bewildered when people abandon it in the face of suffering.”

According to Horvath, a much greater emphasis on apologetics would be a step in the right direction, if only because it would show that the American Church was finally taking the situation seriously. However, he believes that there are even more powerful defenses of the faith available.

“The world will do what the world does, but why should we go along with it? God specifically created marriage with the raising of godly children in mind—see Malachi 2. Growing up in a broken family that is loaded with debt, with cartoonish images of Bible stories as one’s intellectual foundation, is a recipe for disaster. We are witnessing the disaster in progress.”

Horvath says, “We can end the vicious circle by equipping parents with a robust knowledge of the faith, and then doing all we can to keep those families healthy and intact. This is why our academy offers an certificate in apologetics and we defend traditional marriage.”
