Ex-Gay Advocate: I Thought God Didn’t Care When I Was Repeatedly Molested—I Was Wrong
After being repeatedly molested as a child, Joe Dallas entered the gay lifestyle. Dallas tells Dr. David Kyle Foster on the Pure Passion Podcast that he began doing pornography as early as elementary school.
“After I was molested, I thought God was watching,” Dallas says. “I just didn’t think He cared. I was hoping that if I could get His attention, maybe He would notice me and do something to either put me in a more loving environment or give me the strength to say no this or somehow race me through my childhood and skip to the years where I could be on my own.”
He even became an activist in the gay church (churches that affirm homosexuality). But in that dark place, God opened his eyes to the false gospel he was believing.
“All the time there was a nagging voice saying, ‘You’re kidding yourself,'” he says. “And I would shove that down and do what I wanted to do until in January of 1984, God, I think very quietly, was convicting me and drawing me back because I was so hungry and restless.”
