Bill Maher Says ‘Gay Mafia’ Forced Mozilla CEO to Resign

Despite his liberal views, Bill Maher seems to disagree with gay activists for the way they targeted Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich after they discovered he donated $1,000 to Proposition 8.

While discussing Eich’s recent resignation on his HBO show Real Time, Maher said he thinks there is a “gay mafia” that will “whack” anyone who crosses them.

“So this guy apparently does not want gay people to get married, and he had to step down. What do you think of that?” he asked a panel on his show.

His panel agreed the treatment of Eich was unfair.

“I guess he gave $1,000 eight years ago, and it’s come back to haunt him,” said former Rep. Tom Davis.

“Well, and he gave it when President Obama was still against gay marriage,” noted Carrie Sheffield of Forbes. “So I don’t think it’s very fair.

“Also, I think there is a gay mafia,” Maher added. “I think if you cross them, you do get whacked. I really do.”

Eich’s resignation last week came days after a popular online dating site, OkCupid.com, called for a boycott of Mozilla’s Internet browser, Firefox, for naming a gay marriage opponent as its chief executive.

Eich, who invented the programming language Javascript, is co-founder of Mozilla.
