Pastor Michael Todd: Don’t Be a ‘Kiddy Pool Christian’

Many are familiar with “lukewarm Christians” or even “Chreasters” (those who only attend church on Christmas and Easter) but Pastor Michael Todd of Transformation Church in Bixby, Oklahoma, has a new term for the lackluster Jesus-followers: “kiddy pool Christians.”

His elaborate analogy, props and all, applies a modern take to the age-old dilemma: How can we encourage all-in, on fire for Jesus kind of faith in a world that seems to value the mediocre and apathetic?

When God is calling believers to deeper waters so He can be their anchor, the comfortable shallows of kiddy pool Christianity never allow for unwavering trust to take place—nor provide opportunity to uncover what blessings the Lord may impart in the process, Todd says.

Transformation Church is no stranger to using the favor from the Lord to bless others. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Todd has used the “viral church” method to grow one of largest congregations in the U.S. And at the end of 2020, a year where the majority of Americans were struggling financially more than ever, his congregation raised $3.5 million to bless those who needed it most in their community.
