Did Dr. Fauci Selectively Mislead People to Manipulate Behavior About COVID-19?
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio wrote in a Fox News opinion piece, published Dec. 30, 2020: “Thanks to our news media’s monomaniacal obsession with President Trump, few have paid attention to an important interview that Dr. Anthony Fauci gave, in which he acknowledged that he selectively lied to the American public about the coronavirus and what was needed for our national recovery.
“I am sure that Dr. Fauci—the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases—made the decision to mislead with nothing but good intentions. However, let’s be clear about what he was doing: lying to the American people in order to manipulate their behavior.
“I do not question Dr. Fauci’s motives—I trust they are noble …”
Well, count us among those who do question Fauci’s motives and his undisguised love of being the focus of public attention.
We wrote in July, “A free and independent press of yesteryear would have studied the political angle of Dr. Fauci and sought to investigate if ‘the most trusted man in America,’ as CNN calls him, has a conflict of interest between himself, his wife Dr. Christine Grady, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Big Pharma.” We’re talking multiple billions here.
Three months earlier, in April, we articulated our predilection for Dr. Knut Wittkowski’s approach in dealing adequately with COVID-19, “Get the old and frail people out of the way, get the kids in school, run your businesses and carry on with life as usual, and in 4-6 weeks the virus will have run its course and been eliminated by the only thing that kills virus: herd immunity.”
Our problem with Fauci relates to the encroachment, if not assault, on lasting freedom that his methods entail. In this respect he seems more in line with Hillary Clinton’s “It-Takes-a-Village” doctrine of governing, where government knows best in all things. Our own beliefs, on the other hand, concern such issues as limited government, lower taxes, deregulation of business and “the one thing government can do for me is leave me alone.”
Here’s the rub. Republicans were given control of Congress by grassroots, precinct-level conservatives in 2010 (Speaker John Boehner), in 2014 (Leader Mitch McConnell) and in 2016 (President Donald Trump, Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker Paul Ryan). Whereas we give President Trump an A for effort, the overall effort by Republican milquetoast chieftains and lieutenants since Ronald Reagan (1980-1988), has been dismal.
Mark Steyn’s apt observation comes here to mind: “I describe Republicans as a party of seat-warmers until the pendulum swings and the Dems come roaring back. When the left wins, they’re in power; when the right wins, they’re in office, and that’s all.” Hence the threat to American freedom if Republicans lose two Senate seats in Georgia on Jan. 5, 2021.
Even if we completely ignore the fact that Fauci has been inaccurate or wrong many times over his 37-year career at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, what still remains is his unmasked, overt proclivity for the one-man rule of authoritarianism.
It is this that is particularly odious to “We the People,” the lawful owners of America.
America has entered “arguably the most consequential period of government malfeasance in [American] history,” Heather MacDonald asserts. American Christendom nonetheless sleeps on.
Except “We the People” have now reached our kairos, which in New Testament Greek stands for “the appointed time in the purpose of God.” In other words, it is the time when God acts.
So if the goal is to support and maintain sustainable freedom, virtue must be reestablished in the nation’s culture, given the verity of politics being downstream from culture. To accomplish this, the founders’ theological scope needs to be linked to Jesus’ ekklesia kingdom assignment from Matthew 16:18. Otherwise, America will end up in history’s waste bin.
What we don’t need are tin-pot dictators, government busybodies or shoddy elected officials attempting to look like statesmen, who delight in meddling in and controlling every part of free people’s lives.
Since Americans want to be free, let’s once again remind ourselves that “If restaurants scare you—stay home. If airline travel scares you—stay home. If bars scare you—don’t go there. If working in an office scares you—quit and work from home. If you want to wear a mask—by all means wear one. But for the rest of us, please leave us alone.”
Solomon’s amusing assessment of the folly of rewarding foolishness puts this even more in perspective. He says in Proverbs 26:8: “As he who binds a stone in a sling, so is he who gives honor to a fool.”
Jewish Hebrew scholar Michael V. Fox elucidates, “Giving a fool honor [in the form of adulation or high station] just arms him to hurt others, like putting a stone into his sling. The honor he receives becomes a nasty missile, making him even more arrogant and obnoxious.”
Rubio’s allegation that Fauci “selectively lied to the American public about the coronavirus” is not to be taken lightly, for it bespeaks Fauci’s crafty disposition. In the words of Proverbs 12:17 (NET): “The faithful witness tells what is right, but a false witness speaks deceit.”
To put this in context: The supreme power in a republic rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote. To represent the owners’ interest, representatives are chosen directly or by extension and then staffed to operate government. The basic principle of our constitutional representative republic, established by America’s founders, demands that elected officials and government bureaucrats work for the owners of America: “We the People.”
When the nation’s owners cannot fully rely on government bureaucrats, media elites and/or unprincipled politicians to produce openness and truthfulness, tenable freedom can no longer be held, maintained or defended.
America totters on the verge of an upcoming pandemic of secular subterfuge and subversion, spreading throughout the nation’s very substance.
Occupying the slopes and summits of the spiritual, intellectual, educational, economical and vocational mountains of influence, unscrupulous and disingenuous secularists have plunged America into the dark depths of iniquity and depravity. With it being understood that culture is the public manifestation of religion and that righteousness exalts a nation, our children’s and their children’s prospects of sustainable freedom couldn’t be any worse.
The sooner America’s rightful owners will recognize that transient and mutable secularism is vying for ideological supremacy and control of the public square against eternal and immutable Jehovah God, the more that recognition per se will improve our chance of making it through the onslaught of secularism, Marxism and other kindred -isms.
In addition, the theological heresy and antibiblical subculture fashioned by contemporary Christendom over the last 100 years, with its overgrown priority on attendance and bulgy budgets, will require some substantial cutting back to size as well.
The apostle Paul’s description of putting on a show by observing the outward forms of religion, while at the same time having no impact on the culture whatsoever, closely matches American Christendom’s pursuits over the last century or so.
“Having a form of godliness, but denying its power. Turn away from such people,” Paul advises in 2 Timothy 3:5a (MEV).
