Christian evangelist and humanitarian Dr. Terry Law died Aug. 31, 2020, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tulsa World reports. He leaves behind a legacy of preaching and humanitarian work that took him into more than 75 nations, emphasizing especially the communist and Muslim worlds.

Born in western Canada on April 8, 1943, Law graduated summa cum laude from Oral Roberts University in 1969 and founded Living Sound International, a team of contemporary “musicianaries.” In 1987, he moved from music into humanitarian aid.

Law is survived by his wife, Barbara Law; seven children; and 10 grandchildren. His first wife, Janice D’Arpa Law, preceded him in death. A memorial service was held at Christ Chapel on the campus of Oral Roberts University Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. CDT.

After his death, Law’s ministry posted on Facebook:

Dr. Terry Law has passed from this life and joined the great cloud of witnesses. We are saddened to report that the founder of World Compassion, Terry Law, has passed from this life and joined the great cloud of witnesses (described by the writer of Hebrews) on August 31st, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In the midst of our tears, we celebrate Terry’s life, his boldness, his vision and his courage to go where few were willing to go — to reach the unreached with the saving message of Jesus Christ. We are convinced that his life influenced millions to embrace the good news of the Gospel.

We remember today the mandate that Terry initially received while ministering with his first Living Sound team in South Africa.

‘I am going to send you to minister among the closed countries of the world. You will do things that most people will believe impossible. If you trust Me and are obedient, I will protect you.’

This led to his over 50-year journey of ministry to become an influential voice to nations hostile to the Gospel including Russia, China, North Korea, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq.

Using a compassion-evangelism model of ministry helped shape who World Compassion is today — transforming lives by meeting both their physical and spiritual needs.

We celebrate Terry Law’s legacy and purpose to continue to reach the unreached, which he exampled with his life these 77 years.

Thank you for remembering to pray for the Law family at this time.

Jason Law, Dr. Law’s son and current president of World Compassion, added his own tribute on Facebook, describing his father as “a fighter, a man of mission, compassion and grit to see the Gospel advanced in so many unique ways in hostile environments. He was full of vision and tenacious faith to see it come to pass. He didn’t understand or accept obstacles. He simply ignored them and went about his mission. Something he has left behind in so many of us. He holds a legacy of imparting and inspiring people to ‘go,’ to fulfill their purpose, to do their part to reach the world for Jesus. Millions of people were impacted by the message of Jesus not just from him personally, but through the thousands he inspired to do likewise. I am one of them.”

Bible teacher, author and speaker Carol McLeod also posted her expression of sympathy on Facebook, writing: “Today, we lost a hero of the faith. Dr. Terry Law of World Compassion Terry Law Ministries has passed from this life into glory. I am one of the countless lives that was greatly impacted by his life and ministry. As his son Jason stated: ‘He holds a legacy of imparting and inspiring people to “go,” to fulfill their purpose, to do their part to reach the world for Jesus. Millions of people were impacted by the message of Jesus not just from him personally, but through the thousands he inspired to do likewise.’ My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”

Law was the author of nine books, and Storm Chaser: The Terry Law Story tells his life story, according to Tulsa World. Those wishing to share a tribute may visit the ministry website at this link. {eoa}
