If You’ve Ever Wanted to Prophesy, These 4 Key Steps Will Help
I love my job! I think everyone should love what God has them doing. Christians should be the hardest-working and most fun-loving employees and employers ever. We should be in every sphere of society, making an eternal impact. But we should always love what we are doing.
I am honored to work for the Lord in the “mountain of media.”
My ministry releases a twice weekly podcast interview, Adventures in the Spirit, with apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, leaders and other people making an impact in the seven mountains. We have also released two e-courses on charismacourses.com, and my friend Kathy DeGraw has an interview with me on her latest e-course, Healing from Trauma. And all of these things are a lot of fun as lives are being changed and transformed around the world.
Recently, I sat down with my friend Tom Stamman, who is a prophet to the nations and has built the City of Refuge in Honduras. He travels extensively, being part of more than 400 prophetic meetings every year, and he also takes time to prophesy over every person at each meeting if they like. But he also teaches people how to prophesy through what he calls the School of the Prophets.
When Tom was on my program, we were talking about prophecy and how he hears God, equipping others. He said it is essential that people know Scripture before they prophesy. He shared four key steps to teaching anyone how to prophesy. He uses these four key steps in his School of the Prophets, saying:
- Faith: People may receive a word, a picture in their mind, a Scripture, a feeling, a sensing, a hunch. And this begins them stepping out in prophecy.
- Interpretation: This is where the person asks questions in prayer but also to the person they are prophesying over. They are to filter what they have received through Jesus, based on Scripture and begin interpreting it.
- Application: This is where the person takes action or steps of obedience. People are to do something, change something, get involved in fulfilling it. Tom shared how all prophecy is conditional. People can receive incredible prophecies but if they disobey God, the prophetic words in their life will not be fulfilled.
- Declaration: This is calling things that are not as though they are in Jesus’ name. After going through all the steps, people are to pray into it and declare into the heavenlies and then go forth in the will of God.
Tom and I prophesied over some people commenting on the live stream, and Tom shared his phone number if people want more information about his ministry. I laughed about this saying, “I’ve never heard a prophet give out their phone number [like this]!” He said, “It could be fun!” And it was fun spending time with Tom, and it could be fun when you call him. Again, we need to love what we are doing, and I love having Adventures in the Spirit.
