Has God Given You the Watchman Anointing?

Pastor Joshua Reyes says that if you’re suddenly awake in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, God may be calling you to be a “watchman.” In the Bible, this is someone who stayed up all night to protect his city against potential enemy threats. In today’s age as a watchman, you would be called to pray against spiritual attacks on people.

“For some people, staying up all night and praying for hours on end may be normal,” Reyes says. “For others, a simple 10-minute prayer may release the spiritual burden to intercede, and they can head back to sleep feeling peace.”

But that doesn’t mean you need to restrict yourself to a specific nightly routine, Reyes says on the Legacy podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network. Even if God has called you to be a watchman, He won’t make you stay up all night every night.

“Don’t force yourself to stay up late every night if God isn’t calling you to do it,” Reyes says. “Use wisdom. Don’t place yourself in a position to engage in unnecessary spiritual warfare that you’re not called to. Just because you can’t sleep doesn’t mean that you should be getting into things that maybe the Lord isn’t calling you to do.

“Seek the Lord first and use discernment. Not everyone is called to be a watchman, and not every watchman will be awake at the same time.”
