Prayer + Action
As the midterm elections approach, TheCall founder Lou Engle is joining a cross-section of Christian leaders in calling for 40 days of prayer and fasting to “shift” the nation.
The initiative, dubbed Pray and Act, kicks off with a simulcast from Washington, D.C., Sept. 19 and begins the following day. Prison Fellowship founder Charles Colson, Foursquare Church leader Jack Hayford and Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention are among those supporting the initiative, which ends Oct. 30 with a webcast event from the Lincoln Memorial.
Rather than focusing only on prayer and voting, the effort calls Christians to transform the culture also through evangelism and compassion ministry. “We must stand for the foundations of the sanctity of life, of marriage and religious freedom, but that’s not enough,” Engle says. “We must act. … We must become the heart of Jesus and compassion released in the land. It’s time to do this.”
