Why This Woman Wouldn’t Let Her Doctor Say ‘Cancer’
“I’m a little bit of a stubborn person,” says evangelist Karen Schatzline. So when her oncologist met with her to go over the results of some recent blood work, “he really didn’t have a chance,” she says on the “Hope Through Cancer” series on Charisma News.
Schatzline listened to every detail of his diagnosis, but she was hearing from the Lord at the same time. And God used the same words He had spoken months before: “Do you trust Me? Do you trust Me?”
“So in that moment, after [the doctor] finished telling me everything, I simply looked at him and said, ‘I understand. … I understand what the diagnosis is,” Schatzline says. “I understand what you see in the natural, but I’m going to make a request.
“I’m not in denial. I’m not crazy or psychotic. But I am rejecting what you’re telling me. I know that this is not meant for me. … I understand fully that this is the reality of what shows up in my blood. But I have to reject it in order to get through it.”
When the doctor looked at her in shock, Schatzline tried to explain. “If my children bring home a stray dog, I’m not going to give it a name,” she told him. “Because everybody knows if you name it … it becomes a part of the family, a part of the scenery, a part of the atmosphere in your home.
“I can’t give this a name because I’m not keeping it,” Schatzline told the bewildered doctor. Listen to the podcast to hear what happened next.
