Mike Bickle Shares the Prophetic Words That Started the International House of Prayer

A new retrospective video released by the International House of Prayer (IHOPKC) explains the prophetic words that formed the foundation for IHOPKC.

During a trip to Cairo, Egypt, in 1982, Mike Bickle says God highlighted four important values to him—values which would later shape IHOPKC. Those four values—intercession, holiness, poor and prophetic ministry—formed the original acronym “IHOP.”

“The first one would be night and day prayer, and the word was intercession,” Bickle says. “The second one was holiness of heart, or we would call it ‘loving God with all of our heart and loving people.’ The next one was a commitment to the poor—offering ourselves and extravagant offerings to the poor. Embracing a simple lifestyle so we could give more to those that did not have. … P was prevailing faith, or the prophetic ministry, because it’s the prophetic that strengthens our faith.”

Bickle says the fear of the Lord came upon him, and he heard God tell him, “I am going to change the understanding and expression of Christianity on the whole earth in one generation.” Bickle said yes to God in that moment.

But the journey doesn’t stop there. Watch the video to learn about other prophecies and intercessory gatherings—including special interviews conducted with Bob Jones before his death.
