The setting sun is turned red by the smoke from the Carr Fire burning in the hills west of Redding, California.

Bethel Opens Doors as Salvation Army Distribution Hub

Our hearts are with families in our local community who have lost loved ones, lost homes or have been displaced by the Carr fire. We want to update you on the role Bethel Church has been asked by the city to provide and what we are doing to come alongside our community. On Thursday, July 26, 2018, Bethel Global Response met with the Red Cross and city officials about how we could partner with their efforts in the city and communicated that we’d love for them to use our College View campus however they saw fit. Due to our proximity to the fire and the limited accessibility of our College View campus, we are not a primary choice as an evacuation center. We wanted to meet the need but had to do it safely and with permission. Instead, we were asked to assist with: providing supplies and volunteers to distribute food at the Shasta College Evacuation Center, search and rescue efforts and staying available to city officials and other agencies for any needs.

On Sunday, July 29, 2018, we were invited to become a distribution hub for the Salvation Army, and will open our doors at 9 a.m. Monday (July 30, 2018) at our College View campus, located at 933 College View Drive. We will be open to the public from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. each day until we are advised there is no longer a need. Moving forward, Bethel Global Response, our disaster relief team, will be providing the following support and services to the Redding community at the Distribution Hub.

During the Sunday’s preparation to be a Distribution Hub, Jordan Pacilio, Director of Bethel Global Response, said this about the team, “This is the first time we have provided disaster relief efforts while also being directly impacted by the disaster ourselves.”
