Comedians Portraying Jesus and Man With Leprosy

You Won’t Be Laughing at This Latest ‘Funny or Die’ Video

Is there a line liberals won’t cross to simultaneously bash political conservatives and Christians in America today?

It would seem the answer is quickly approaching a hard and fast “no” after the latest tasteless bit of humor aimed at ridiculing Republicans and evangelical Christians who are opposed to the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare. The internet comedy troupe Funny or Die posted a new video this week titled “The Miracles of Jesus Under Trumpcare.”

The video depicts Jesus refusing to perform a healing miracle over concerns about “pre-existing conditions” and then refusing to heal a baby born with a heart defect because it’s a pre-existing condition and because they mother was poor, saying “Hey, that’s how the free market works. Miracles are expensive. Good luck.” The mother is angered and gives an expletive-laced response.

Next, Jesus is depicted refusing to assist a woman experiencing abdominal pain, saying “That falls under ‘women’s health.’ You need to go talk to Mary Magdalene at her clinic, Prophecy Parenthood.” Prophecy Parenthood was “defunded” because Jesus’ “base” doesn’t like abortion.

Then, a dying man’s requests are refused because he’s too old. Jesus is depicted as suggesting the man can be raised from the dead if he “pulls himself up by his bootstraps.”

The video also depicts Jesus using profanity and worse. At this point, the angry mob discovers “it’s not really Jesus; it’s Senator Mitch McConnell,” who is depicted as a “time travelin’ turtle” who “hangs out with hippies” and abuses drugs to get high.

Not only does the video mock Jesus and Christians in its attempt to attack Republicans, but it’s woefully short on facts, providing a nearly literal depiction of the “throwing Grandma off the cliff” attacks liberals have used against political conservatives with regard to health care for decades. This is the same pathetic approach Funny or Die has taken to mocking Republicans in the past, but adding the blasphemous depictions of Jesus was a new low.

As of this writing, the video has been viewed nearly 620,000 times but has earned only 160 “funny” votes. It’s received 50 “die” votes. Commenting has been deactivated for the video, suggesting the group knew it would spark considerable outrage.

But, by posting it anyway, they’ve demonstrated their hatred for evangelical Christians and political conservatives. {eoa}
