Nigerian Christians fasted and prayed for three days last week to stop rampant cultism among young people.

The prayer campaign began in Mgbuitanwo, a community plagued with relentless killings and cult activities.

Christians around the city gathered to pray “for the Holy Spirit to intervene and arrest the minds of youths and sponsors of the cultists, who are terrorizing communities in the local government area and state.”

The prayers impacted more than just the city’s Christians as the local government stepped in to help facilitate the fasting. Ikechi Uchendu-Osi, chief of Mgbuitanwo, issued a mandate to stop all commercial activity once the fast commenced.

Solomon Erim, a leader in the community, said everyone was encouraged to participate in the fast because everyone was affected by the constant killings and cultism.

“We deemed it necessary as a community to seek the face of God in order for Him to intervene for there to be peace so that the community will go about its normal activities,” Erim told Vanguard News Nigeria.

“God is the Creator of the universe. He alone is the only person who can solve the problem, for us to have acknowledged God to intervene in the problem, I think he will answer our prayers,” he said. {eoa}
