Hillary Clinton’s VP ‘Short List’ Leaked
Citing several Democratic sources, the Associated Press is reporting that Hillary Clinton’s “short list” of potential running mates is now down to three individuals.
And while U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.), her primary challenger, is not on the list, many of his supporters will likely be happy to see the “next best candidate”: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). She is joined by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Housing Secretary Julian Castro.
So, who are they?
Warren is a former consumer protection advocate and Harvard Law School professor who specialized in commercial law and bankruptcy law. A long-time Republican, she switched to Democrat in 1995; more recently she has railed against Wall Street and corporatism in America.
Kaine is the former Governor of Virginia, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and a former attorney who graduated from Harvard Law School. He was widely speculated to be President Barack Obama’s choice for running mate in 2008, but took the DNC job instead.
Both Warren and Kaine were first elected to the Senate in 2012.
Castro is also a widely popular pick, particularly with Latinos. He is the twin brother of U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) and is the former Mayor of San Antonio, Texas. He is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School. His parents were politically active and helped establish La Raza, the Chicano nationalist political party.
The AP report didn’t indicate if there was a clear frontrunner among the three candidates.
