Minnesota Governor’s ‘Beyoncé Day’ Enrages Thousands of Citizens

Pop star Beyoncé so affects Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton that he declared May 23 to be “Beyoncé Day” across his state, much to the chagrin of the residents.

“Beyoncé has influenced many Minnesota girls and women with the powerful, positive messages in her music, and her impact and success have been widely-recognized. She was named the Top Female Artist of the 2000s by Billboard, and Artist of the Decade by The Guardian in 2009. Time Magazine recognized her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world for both 2013 and 2014, and she was named by Forbes Magazine as the one of the world’s 100 most powerful women in 2015,” read the proclamation.

The declaration, also posted to Facebook, garnered thousands of likes, shares and comments—most of them less than ideal.

“I have never in my life been so embarrassed to be from Minnesota,” commented one person.

Another posted: “Minnesota has stooped to an all time low.”

“Just when you think you’ve seen and heard it all the governor creates Beyoncé Day! What an idiot we have representing our state. So completely embarrassed to say I’m from Minnesota,” someone else chimed in.

Yet another wrote: “Well, its a good thing that they are getting the important stuff taken care of…….. By the way, you don’t have to be from Wisconsin to think this is one of the stupidest things Governor Dayton has signed off on. When will this clown be retiring anyway! UGH.”
