AG Evangelist J. Foy Johnson Passes
J. Foy Johnson went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, July 29, 2012, at the age of 90. He courageously battled complications associated with a recent stroke and prior heart issues.
Johnson began his ministry on the evangelistic field in 1939. He was ordained in 1946 by the Georgia District and went on to pastor churches in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
From 1957-1958, Johnson served as district secretary of the Peninsular Florida District, and was elected assistant superintendent of the district in 1960. In 1966, Johnson was elected superintendent of the Peninsular Florida District, a position he held until 1990.
Johnson was elected to represent the southeast region as an executive presbyter in 1976, followed by years of service to the Assemblies of God fellowship in a wide range of responsibilities.
Johnson was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Aline Johnson. He is survived by his second wife, Marjorine SlocumbJohnson; seven sons: James Johnson, Jr. (Linda), T.L. Johnson (Sonja), Rev. Joel Johnson (Martha), Michael Johnson (YiMin), Howard Johnson, Johnny Johnson (Barbara) and Sam Johnson (Michelle), all of Lakeland, Florida; one daughter, Elizabeth Hale (Paul) of Macclenny, Florida; three stepchildren: Winton Johnson (June), Korin Dobbs (Larry) and Janet Waycaster; 17 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren,
21 great-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 2, 2012, from 6 8 p.m. at Victory Church, 1401 Griffin Rd., Lakeland, Florida. Additional visitation will be Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, from 910 a.m. followed by his commencement service at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, 4620 U.S. Highway 98 South, Lakeland, Fla., following the service.
