This Former Rival Just Endorsed Ted Cruz
Wednesday morning, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) got a big boost from one of his former campaign rivals.
Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina announced she was endorsing the Texas senator, calling him a champion for constitutional rights.
“Ted Cruz is a fearless fighter for our constitutional rights,” she said. “He has spent his life protecting Americans’ God-given liberties, and he has always stood by his word. Unlike the status-quo political class in D.C., Ted Cruz didn’t cower when he got to Washington—he stood unequivocally for the American people. I know Ted, and he’ll do the same as president.”
The endorsement could signal a shift that the GOP establishment has shifted to the Texas senator in a last-ditch effort to stop Donald Trump from winning the party’s nomination. If so, it would be an awkward relationship, at best, given past hostility between Cruz and the party’s power brokers.
Regardless, Cruz said he was “blessed” to have Fiorina’s support.
“Carly Fiorina is a strong, principled leader and woman of faith,” Cruz said. “Our campaign is stronger with her leadership and her voice. Her story embodies the promise that in America anyone can start as a secretary and become a Fortune 50 CEO. Carly speaks the truth with courage, doesn’t back down to the Washington powerbrokers, and terrifies Hillary and the Democrats.”
