New Ad: Rand Paul Say US Must Learn From Its Mistakes

Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Rand Paul’s campaign released a new TV ad Monday afternoon. The ad highlights the need for a “conservative realist foreign policy” which demonstrates the nation’s leaders have learned from past mistakes.

The ad opens with the story of Waad Ramadan Alwan and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi, two Iraqis who had contributed to the deaths of Americans in their home country, who were allowed to enter the U.S. as refugees. Four years later, in 2009, they were apprehended while attempting to send heavy arms to al Qaeda and for plotting an attack on an Army officer.

The ad specifically targets the policy statements made by U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), both of whom are quoted.

“This advertisement contrasts Senator Paul’s views on national security with that of fellow senators and Republican Presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio,” his campaign said in a press release. “Unlike Senators Cruz and Rubio, Rand Paul has always fought to defend our borders and protect our American interests.”

The ad began running Monday in the lead up to the Republican presidential debate to be aired on CNN Tuesday evening.
