CUFI Launches ‘Defend America-Vote Israel’ Initiative
Christians United for Israel (CUFI) just rolled out an initiative that ties America’s security with Israel’s future.
Dubbed “Defend America-Vote Israel,” the initiative launched with an action alert to CUFI members asking them to sign a petition that declares “When I cast my vote, I’ll be looking for a candidate who affirms that one of the best ways to defend America is to stand with Israel.”
The petition saw more than 23,000 signatures in less than 24 hours.
Coinciding with the initiative’s launch, David Brog, CUFI’s executive director, published on op-ed in the Daily Caller criticizing those who would abandon America’s relationship with Israel and explaining that American-Israeli cooperation is an efficient model for maintaining American security through cost-effective alliances.
“As we confront militant Islam abroad and a fiscal crisis at home, we can’t afford to abandon our role in the world. But we must seek more equitable alliances. The answer isn’t to reject our relationship with Israel, but to replicate it,” Brog wrote.
Brog will be discussing “why real conservatives support Israel” on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. during the American Conservative Union’s CPAC 2012.
“We mustn’t allow those who oppose American support for Israel to mischaracterize it as an outdated luxury. On the contrary, the U.S.-Israel relationship provides the paradigm for pursuing American security in an era of scarcity. Leveraging Israel’s military prowess to assume our strategic burdens is far more cost effective than shouldering these burdens ourselves,” Brog says.
“As the largest pro-Israel organization in the U.S.—and given our strong center-right constituency—CUFI will take on those on the far-right who seek to use the fiscal crisis as an excuse to distance America from Israel.”
