Dairy Queen Manager’s Kindness Wins America’s Heart
What would you do if you got a call from the second-richest man in America? Well, that’s what happened this week to a benevolent Dairy Queen manager.
Last week, Joey Prusak saw a woman steal $20 from a visually impaired customer at the suburban Minneapolis Dairy Queen.
The woman picked up the $20 bill and slipped it into her purse. When she got up to the counter to order, Prusak confronted her about the incident and insisted she return the money.
The alleged thief claimed the $20 was hers and stormed out. In an act of kindness, the 19-year-old store manager gave the blind man back the money out of his own pocket.
A customer who witnessed the incident emailed Dairy Queen, and the email was sent to store owner Dave Pettit, who posted it at the store.
Then a fellow employee shared a picture of the letter via Facebook and it immediately went viral.
Now Prusak is getting worldwide attention, including a phone call from major Dairy Queen shareholder Warren Buffett.
“We were just chit-chatting. It was just a little talk we had,” Prusak says. “He goes, ‘I just wanted to call and say thank you for all that you did.’ He goes, ‘It means an awful lot to me.’”
Since the posting, the store’s business has doubled, and $20 bills keep showing up in Prusak’s mailbox from people inspired by his actions.
Prusak says he’ll give the money to charity.
