A Warning Against Witchcraft in the Church
As we are getting closer to Halloween, one of the things Christians need to be aware of is how witchcraft has permeated the church in conniving ways.
In a recent message by Jeremiah Johnson, he discussed how the church needs to be sober-minded and work against, not for, the darkness of this world.

“I’ve had on my heart this morning 1 Peter 5:8. It says ‘be sober, beyond the alert. For the devil prowls around like a lion seeking to devour,'” Johnson says.

He also discusses how we have to discern what the spiritual component is behind something.
“We have to learn how to pick up on the spirit behind a thing so that we don’t identify and align with the work of the enemy,” says Johnson. “When we align and we agree and we come into covenant with the work of the enemy…it then becomes going from agreement and identification to actually wearing the garment.”
Johnson lists problems like confusion, unexplainable physical illness, rebellion and manipulation, false accusation and relational strife as signs of a witchcraft attack that believers must be aware of. These are not items that people typically think of as witchcraft, but they have the evil attributes that try to steer us away from the Lord and toward the path of darkness.
“Witchcraft is attempting to get you away from the will of God,” Johnson says. “Witchcraft through domination, through confusion…Satan is about getting you disconnected from the right people in the wrong place at the right time.”
Johnson also pointed to Revelation 12, which speaks of Satan as a dragon. It is in this passage that the dragon is awaiting a woman to give birth so that he may devour her child, something Satan tries to do with us.

“These evil spirits work primarily in seasons of, number one, birthing, and number two, transition,” Johnson says.
While we tend to think of witchcraft as something that happens just through spells, these signs are a warning to us as believers that we must take a spiritual inventory to see the ways the enemy is trying to throw us off course from God’s perfect plan.
