Global Outreach Day Mobilizing Christians to Share Gospel in Over 200 Nations
Recently, Verner Nachtigal stood in line, waiting for his order at a fast-food restaurant in California. As the project leader for Global Outreach Day, what better place to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, he thought.
“This young girl is from Mexico, and she had never heard the gospel before,” Nachtigal says. “I immediately started talking to her about Jesus, and she was really fascinated. There were three or four people in line behind me, and they were OK with it and were listening too. We prayed, and I led her to the Lord, and it was glorious. This is exactly what Global Outreach Day is about.”
The second annual Global Outreach Day is set for Saturday worldwide. Its vision is to mobilize Christians in more than 200 nations to bring the gospel to the lost in every corner of the world.
Youth With a Mission, Christ for All Nations, Bill Wilson’s Metro Ministries, Every Home for Christ, Campus Crusade for Christ and Mike and Cindy Jacobs’ Generals International are only some of the organizations that have partnered with Global Outreach Day.
Nachtigal says Global Outreach Day came to him from God in 2010 during a meeting with pastors in Africa. He says he felt unequipped to do the work God was asking but knew had had to trust the Lord to show him the way.
“Campus Crusade’s Bill Bright once said, ‘If you don’t evangelize, you don’t have the Holy Spirit in you,’” Nachtigal says. “Acts 1:8 says, ‘You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samara, and to the end of the earth.’ That’s what we’re doing with Global Outreach Day—taking the gospel to the world. Everybody can do it. Our motto is ‘No preacher is coming; the whole church is going out.’”
Members of the Jacobs’ congregation plan to be out in full force Saturday, winning souls for Jesus. Cindy Jacobs says she believes Nachtigal, and the project, are “overwhelmed with God’s anointing.”
“God wants souls to be saved. When He gives you the word, He gives you the favor,” she says. “This is a day for salvation, and I believe that God is going to cause not only individuals, but many households to be saved.”
Wilson, founder of Metro Ministries in New York, is no stranger to evangelism. His ministry reaches 80,000 to 85,000 kids in schools each week.
Wilson commends Nachtigal and his organization for their tireless efforts to put Global Outreach Day together.
“I think evangelism is going to take more than one event, but you have to start somewhere,” Wilson says. “They asked us to participate, and we said we certainly would help. We want to join in with others around the world for the common cause of evangelism. But it certainly isn’t something new to us. We do it every day.”
The first Global Outreach Day last year saw more than 8 million Christians involved worldwide, evangelizing to more than 25 million people. Nachtigal says there were reports of more than 3 million salvations last year, including stories such as:
- A 19-year-old man who mobilized Christians in more than 300 Brazilian cities to spread the gospel.
- A red-light district in Indonesia that was reached with the gospel and no longer exists.
- In Mongolia, a woman who was healed after having been in a coma for five months. Three of the hospital’s doctors then gave their lives to Christ.
- Outreaches in schools, hospitals, prisons, shopping malls and on the streets.
One of the main goals for Global Outreach Day is for Christians worldwide to reach at least one person with the gospel, whether they are an unsaved friend, a neighbor, a classmate or someone met on a bus. There are many ways to participate, including:
- Getting in contact with someone and starting a conversation.
- Sharing your testimony and the gospel message.
- Offering them prayer.
- Leading them to a decision.
“It was such a success last year, and anyone who is an ambassador for Christ can do it,” Nachtigal says. “Invite someone out for coffee, lunch or a barbeque. Offer to go shopping, give someone a ride, help out in your neighbor’s yard, mow their law or wash their car. You can even do it over the Internet.
“After they have made a decision for Christ, pray with them and show them from God’s Word what they have done. Also make sure to give them your contact information to let them know that you’ll be there to answer any questions they might have.”
The Master’s College in Santa Clara, Calif., is sending out student evangelism teams to many countries throughout the world. Some will work with the disabled in Slovenia; on the streets of Paris, France; in athletic camps and community outreaches in Brazil; with a church plant in Amman, Jordan; with a music ministry in Italy; on community development in Haiti; with youth camps and orphan ministries in Slovakia, Istanbul, Turkey and the Philippines; and building relationships with Muslims in Indonesia.
