When the world was shut down, Israel Houghton of Israel & New Breed got to work. From a time of quarantine to a time of musical inspiration, God revealed Himself to Houghton in new ways. And for singers, new revelation from God means new music.
From their newest album, Feels Like Home, comes hit single “He’s a Wonder”: a song dedicated to returning to that childlike wonder believers have when first encountering Jesus.
This is a spiritually charged feeling Houghton is all too familiar with. He recalls in a prior interview when he accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 5.
“My mother had the good sense to tell me that was the presence of God—that I should always go after when God is in the room and make sure I’m sensitized to that,” he says.
And that became a recurring theme in the singer’s life. Just before God called him to start a church, Houghton prayed, “Lord, I’m done. I’m done with helping people know my name, with trying to pursue some sort of career path. I just want to worship. I just want to be used by You.”
Now, despite the hills and valleys he’s traveled through, Houghton, along with friend and fellow performer Chandler Moore, offer “He’s a Wonder” as praise to the God who “takes my breath away.” {eoa}
